Integrating Technology
Technology is an important element to consider. By way of my educational development through Washburn University, I have learned about the many ways in which technology can enrich our classrooms. As a future art educator, I will rely upon the use of technology in a wide variety of ways. I feel that though art is one of the more challenging contents in regard to successfully utilizing technology, there are many software and hardware components that lend itself to the enhancement of my lesson. I find the constant evolution of technology fascinating and am going to make it a personal goal to remain aware and current with the everchanging technological trends. That said, I believe in balance and that technology is a tool, not a way of life. As educators, and as reflective beings, we must know when to utilize it, and when to turn it off. Too often it seems that our society has allowed itself to become consumed with technology. It is my hope that I will model this perspective towards my future students so that they can better understand the importance of balance.
Technology is something that should not be feared. I hope that I may be able to encourage colleagues who may have missed out on the technological paradigm shift to learn and utilize the wide variety of technologies so they too can better enhance their classroom experience. I believe that as future educators, we must constantly adapt to new technologies and meet any challenges necessary in order to successfully meet the continuing demands of what it means to be a twenty first century educator.
Students learn in many ways, and I believe the use of technology is important for many reasons. First, I feel that the integration of technology appeals to students and builds pathways to better understanding, simply because it is providing a new and excited way to learn. We live in an era where technology has become the central focus of our current cultural vernacular. Technology is a critical attribute of the 21st century educational experience. It lends itself to gaining real world readiness, in addition to working bilaterally as a globalized society. It allows educators to work bilaterally, where we can collaborate, promote, and inspire one another. Below are two web based lessons I have developed. They are called Web Quest lessons. Students navigate the pages and are given instruction, they have been given the support that they need, yet restrictions are set so that the only links to web that are available are the ones you wish for your students to follow. I am a fan of the Web Quest and invite you to explore the Web Quest lessons I have developed at the links at the bottom of the page.
